It was deleted from the General Roman Calendar of saints in 1969 by Pope Paul VI. It is traditionally a day on which lovers express their love for each other by presenting flowers, offering confectionery, and sending greeting cards (known as "valentines"). The day first became associated with romantic love in the circle ofGeoffrey Chaucer in the High Middle Ages, when the tradition of courtly love flourished.

Modern Valentine's Day symbols include the heart-shapedoutline, doves, and the figure of the winged Cupid. Since the 19th century, handwritten valentines have given way to mass-produced greeting cards.^[4]

A straggly bush, formerly called "moonflowers" and usually found growing, to a height of about five feet, in the corner or along the fence of gardens. Occasionally planted as an ornamental. Supposed to have originated from tropical America, now widely spread throughout the tropics.

Beautiful, delicate, pale mauve, trumpet-shaped flowers open with the morning sun and rarely last until evening. On a particularly windy day they will not even last that long as they easily become ragged by the gusts. There will be a fresh crop of flowers the next morning.
